He served as the first civilian governor of Abia State, held the position of minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, played a pivotal role in the formation of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), and contributed significantly to the party’s victory in the 2015 elections.
President Tinubu, in his tribute, highlights Chief Onu’s multifaceted accomplishments, describing him as an accomplished scholar and first-class engineer. He emphasizes Chief Onu’s unwavering commitment to integrity and high moral standards, while also acknowledging his contributions to national unity and peacebuilding efforts.
The President extends his condolences to Chief Onu’s friends, associates, as well as the governments of Ebonyi and Abia States. He also sympathizes with all Nigerians who are mourning the loss of this distinguished statesman.
