Tinubu nominates new NERC chairman, two commissioners

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Engr. Ramat, 39, is an electrical engineer and administrator with a PhD in Strategic Management, among other qualifications.

In addition to Ramat, President Tinubu also nominated two commissioners: Mr. Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services.

In a statement, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga said all nominations are subject to confirmation by the Senate. However, to prevent a leadership vacuum at the Commission, the President has directed Engr. Ramat to assume office in an acting capacity pending Senate approval, in line with statutory provisions.

President Tinubu charged the nominees to apply their expertise diligently in advancing the administration’s goals for reforming and strengthening Nigeria’s power sector.
