Tinubu orders security chiefs to restore peace in Benue

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his directive to security chiefs to bring lasting peace and security to Benue State following renewed reprisal attacks that claimed several lives.

This was disclosed in statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Acting on the president’s instructions, top military, police, and intelligence officials have been deployed to the state to coordinate operations aimed at restoring order and curbing violence.

President Tinubu also tasked Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia with initiating dialogue and reconciliation among conflicting parties, particularly farmers, herders, and affected communities, to end the cycle of violence.

Condemning the killings as “inhuman and anti-progress,” the president urged political and community leaders to refrain from inflammatory rhetoric and to discourage actions that could provoke further attacks.

“The latest news of wanton killings in Benue State is very depressing. We must not allow this bloodletting to continue unabated. Enough is now enough,” Tinubu stated.

He emphasized that security agencies have been mandated to arrest and prosecute all perpetrators, regardless of affiliation.

“This is the time for Governor Alia to act as a statesman and lead the process of dialogue and reconciliation that will bring peace to Benue,” Tinubu added.
