President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep concern over the inhuman treatment endured by the Super Eagles in Libya and welcomed their safe return to Nigeria. Following the national football team’s ordeal at a Libyan airport, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) withdrew the Super Eagles from their scheduled Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
In statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu has called for a swift and thorough investigation by the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Disciplinary Board, urging them to take appropriate action against those responsible for violating CAF’s regulations.
He commended the coordinated efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federal Ministry of Sports Development in ensuring the safe return of the team and praised the Super Eagles for maintaining their resilience throughout the ordeal.
Highlighting the unifying power of football, Tinubu condemned the unsportsmanlike behavior of the Libyan authorities, calling for unity among football stakeholders to prevent such incidents in the future.
