Nigerian Army troops engaged in Counter-terrorism and Counter-insurgency operations in the North West region achieved a significant milestone on Monday, April 15, 2024. They successfully dismantled a terrorist enclave situated in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, effectively neutralizing the threat posed by the insurgents.
Acting upon credible intelligence regarding the terrorist activities, the troops executed a targeted clearance operation to dismantle the suspected operational base in the town of Maru. Subsequently, a fierce confrontation ensued between the troops and the terrorists, resulting in the neutralization of 12 insurgents, while the remaining elements were forced to retreat.
He said during the operation, the troops seized a cache of arms including an AK-47 rifle, one magazine, 12 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, and two locally manufactured firearms. Additionally, the troops confiscated 10 operational motorbikes utilized by the terrorists for mobility, along with the recovery of 18 rustled cows. Following the dislodgement of the terrorists, their base was swiftly destroyed by the troops.
Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, emphasized that this successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment and dedication of the Nigerian Army in combating terrorism and insurgency. He reiterated the Army’s steadfast resolve to ensure the safety and security of the populace, affirming their determination to continue taking decisive measures to suppress terrorist activities in the region.
Nwachukwu reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s determination to sustain the momentum of ongoing efforts aimed at eradicating terrorism and insurgency from the North West and other affected areas.
