Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have neutralised two armed gunmen in a successful ambush operation in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, following credible intelligence on criminal activities in the area.
Media Information Officer Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh said the operation, conducted on the evening of Tuesday, April 21, 2026, targeted suspected gunmen operating around the Marit axis. Military sources said the ambush was executed at about 7:49 p.m. near Doruwa Babuje after intelligence reports indicated the movement of armed elements known for attacks on local communities.
According to the task force, troops engaged the suspects in a firefight upon contact, killing two of the gunmen, while others fled into nearby bushes under the cover of darkness.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one locally fabricated rifle, five rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, a cutlass, a jackknife, and a mobile phone.
Troops have since maintained a strong presence in Marit and adjoining communities, including Lajam, as efforts continue to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Operation ENDURING PEACE reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
