Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have dismantled a major logistics network of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in a series of precision air strikes along the Lake Chad waterways in Northern Borno State.
Media Information Officer Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI Lieut. Col. Sani Uba, said the military said the coordinated night operation, conducted between April 21 and 22 around the Kaniram Island axis, targeted terrorist supply routes and movement corridors following credible Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) reports.
Air assets deployed for the mission reportedly maintained sustained aerial surveillance, confirming the presence of more than 30 terrorist boats used for transport and resupply operations. After thorough target validation in line with established Rules of Engagement, the strikes were executed with high precision, destroying multiple boats and crippling the group’s logistics base.
Military sources indicated that real-time ISR enabled follow-up strikes on fleeing insurgents attempting to regroup in nearby vegetation, resulting in the neutralisation of over 30 fighters. Survivors were said to have retreated in disarray, suggesting a significant disruption to their command and coordination structures.
In a separate but related operation at Sowolwolo in the Sambisa Forest axis, additional precision-guided strikes destroyed three terrorist gun trucks and eliminated several fighters after targets were positively identified in collaboration with operational partners.
Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) supported by post-strike intelligence confirmed extensive losses on the part of the insurgents. Reports of mass burial activities by ISWAP elements in the Mallam Fatori area were cited as further evidence of the scale of casualties inflicted.
Ground troops have since moved to consolidate gains, exploiting the impact of the air strikes to secure surrounding areas and prevent any regrouping by fleeing militants.
The military high command commended the troops for what it described as a decisive and coordinated operation, reiterating its commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist groups and denying them freedom of action across the theatre of operations.
