Troops foil bandits’ ambush, recover AK-47 in Plateau

Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have foiled an ambush by suspected bandits in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing one attacker and recovering an AK-47 rifle and ammunition.

The operation followed the arrest and interrogation of a suspected member of a bandit syndicate, who provided intelligence on the location of a weapon allegedly concealed at Nwur Village.

Acting on the information, troops escorted the suspect to the area to recover the weapon. However, as the troops approached the suspected hideout, they came under attack from members of the criminal group.

The troops responded with superior firepower, neutralising one of the attackers during the ensuing firefight. The arrested suspect was also killed in the crossfire.

Following the encounter, the troops conducted an exploitation of the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine and two rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, which the fleeing criminals abandoned.

The military said troops have continued clearance and exploitation operations in the area in an effort to track down other members of the bandit syndicate.

It reaffirmed the commitment of Operation ENDURING PEACE to denying criminal elements freedom of action and safeguarding law-abiding residents across Plateau State.
