Troops kill Sambisa second-in-command, 10 others in night raid

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have neutralised a senior Boko Haram commander, Abu Khalid, alongside 10 other terrorists during a decisive night operation in Borno State.

In a statement on Sunday, Media Information Officer Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI Lieut. Col. Sani Uba said Abu Khalid was identified as the second-in-command of Boko Haram in the Sambisa Forest and a key figure responsible for coordinating terrorist operations and logistics within the axis. The operation was carried out by troops of Sector 1 in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) under Operation Desert Sanity.

The engagement occurred at about 11:00 p.m. at the Komala general area of Konduga Local Government Area, barely 24 hours after OPHK troops eliminated another notorious Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, Julaibib, in the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle.

According to the military, the successful offensive led to the recovery of five AK-47 rifles, magazines, several bicycles, assorted logistics and food supplies, as well as a large quantity of medical consumables. No casualties were recorded among the troops.

The Joint Task Force said troops’ morale remains high as clearance operations continue across the Sambisa Forest, Mandara Mountains, Timbuktu Triangle and other known terrorist hideouts in the North East.

Reaffirming its commitment to restoring lasting peace and economic stability in the region, the Task Force vowed to sustain the tempo of operations until all remaining terrorist elements are neutralised. The Military High Command also commended the troops for their dedication and sacrifices, urging them to maintain the momentum in the ongoing counterterrorism campaign.
