Troops of the Nigerian Army, working in collaboration with other security agencies, have rescued a kidnapping victim and neutralised three suspected kidnappers during an intelligence-led operation in Sasaro Forest, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
The operation, conducted on Sunday, October 11, 2026, followed a tip-off that prompted troops of the 195 Battalion (Rear) and other security operatives to launch a search of the forest.
The operation led to the rescue of the victim, identified as Prince Micheal Akao, and the neutralisation of three suspected kidnappers.
Security personnel also recovered three locally fabricated firearms, nine cartridges and other items suspected to be linked to the criminal activities.
The rescued victim was immediately evacuated to a hospital for medical attention and is responding to treatment, according to the military.
The recovered items have been handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS), while the bodies of the three suspects have been taken into the custody of the Nigeria Police Force for further action.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations in collaboration with other security agencies to dismantle kidnapping networks, deny criminal elements safe havens and protect vulnerable communities.
The operation underscores ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb kidnapping and prevent criminals from exploiting forested areas as hideouts for attacks on residents and other unlawful activities.
The military also reiterated its resolve to strengthen security operations and safeguard lives and property across Edo State.
