Troops of the 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was apprehended on September 12, 2026, at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations aimed at disrupting criminal activities and securing major transportation corridors in the area.
According to the Army, the operation led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
Other items recovered from the suspect included a Tecno mobile phone, two bags, a torchlight, a music box and assorted charms.
The suspect and the recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation, as security operatives work to determine his links with other criminal elements and establish his possible involvement in kidnapping and related offences along the route.
The Nigerian Army said it would sustain operations aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of action and protecting communities and critical transportation routes across Edo State.
It added that the operations would continue in collaboration with other security agencies to strengthen security and safeguard residents and commuters in the state.
