In a successful early morning offensive, troops of Operation Fasan Yanma neutralized eight armed bandits along the Kurfi–Batsari axis in Katsina State, the Nigerian Army has confirmed.
The operation, aimed at dislodging criminal elements from their hideouts in the region, was launched following credible intelligence on the movement and location of the bandits. Troops engaged the armed elements in a fierce exchange, resulting in the elimination of eight suspects.
During the operation, troops recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, and other items used by the bandits, dealing a significant blow to their operational capabilities in the area.
Unfortunately, one soldier sustained injuries during the encounter. He is currently receiving medical care at the brigade hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Military authorities stated that the area has since been stabilized, and normalcy restored. Troops remain on high alert, conducting clearance operations and maintaining a strong presence to deter further criminal activity.
“The success of this operation underscores the commitment of our troops to rid Katsina and its surrounding communities of armed banditry and other forms of criminality,” a senior military officer said. “Morale remains high, and the fighting efficiency of our personnel is commendable.”
Residents of the affected communities have been advised to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with security forces by providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and restoring lasting peace in Katsina State and other parts of the North-West facing security challenges.
