In a resolute response to the recent wave of violence in Kerang communities, Operation SAFE HAVEN has successfully apprehended individuals responsible for the destructive and tumultuous acts that unfolded during the 24-hour curfew enforcement.
The condemnatory stance of Operation SAFE HAVEN was evident as it denounced the violent attack that saw the destruction of properties and an assault on Airforce Personnel tasked with enforcing the curfew in Kerang Mangu, Plateau State. The operation not only succeeded in detaining the perpetrators but also in confiscating a cache of dangerous weapons employed during the assault.
During the course of the brazen aggression, the youth of Kerang Mangu launched an audacious assault on deployed troops, imperiling both the military personnel and the larger community. The attack included gunfire directed at the troops’ patrol vehicles, posing a severe threat to the safety and security of all involved.
In a subsequent operation to bring the attackers to justice, the military successfully recovered a substantial arsenal of weapons. Seized items comprised one AK-47 rifle, four locally fabricated automatic rifles, one locally made mortar bomb launcher, seven empty shells of 7.62mm, one empty shell of a cartridge, one pistol magazine, 36 Boris, three rounds of 7.62mm, and seven rounds of 9 x 19mm.
The Nigerian Military vehemently condemns this reckless and unlawful act of violence, emphasizing the endangerment of both the lives of dedicated troops and the overall peace and stability of the community. Emphasizing a commitment to upholding the rule of law, authorities declared a firm stance against any attempts to disrupt the peace and security of the region.
Authorities urge the peace-loving people of Kerang and all citizens to abstain from engaging in acts of violence and to respect the authority of the state.
