Troops recover cache of arms in Plateau

In a week-long operation from July 10-16, 2024, troops from 3 Division and Operation SAFE HAVEN successfully recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition in Fann District, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

According to Military Information Officer, Operation SAFE HAVEN Major SN Zhakom, the operation commenced after a tactical team was ambushed during an initial raid on a gunrunners’ hideout in Sangasa Village on July 10. Tragically, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration, Christopher Luka Agwom, was killed in the attack.

Determined to root out illegal weapons, the troops conducted follow-on operations across Ratas, Ratoso, and Sangasa Villages. The operation resulted in the arrest of eight suspects and the recovery of various weapons, including:

Twelve AK-47 rifles, Twelve fabricated AK-47 rifles, Fifteen Dane guns and Fifteen AK-47 magazines.

Others are One AK-47 drum magazine with a capacity of 75 rounds, Two hundred and fifty rounds of 7.62 mm (Special), Two cartridges, Two bottles of gunpowder, One sword, One complete pair of military woodland camouflage dress, One pair of military combat boots, Two spears, One bow and eight arrows and seven motorcycles

Zhakom said these recoveries underline the presence of a criminal enclave within the district. He said despite misinformation efforts by miscreants, Operation SAFE HAVEN remains steadfast in its mission to eliminate illegal arms from the Joint Operations Area.

He urges the public to provide credible information to security agencies to help ensure the safety of law-abiding citizens.

He added that Timothy Zakka Dung, also known as Timaya, Sam P, Dachun Job and Yakubu Ishaku are declared wanted for their involvement in criminal activities in Fann District and surrounding areas:

Zhakom said information regarding their whereabouts should be reported to the nearest security outpost.

Assistant Superintendent Christopher Luka Agwom, who heroically lost his life during the initial raid, was honored and laid to rest in his hometown, Risek Community, Jos East Local Government Area.

His dedication and commitment to duty have left an indelible mark on his colleagues and community. Operation SAFE HAVEN assures that his sacrifice will not be in vain as efforts to eradicate criminal activities continue unabated.
