Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation MESA, under the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, have successfully repelled a bandit attack on Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, neutralizing 19 of the assailants and restoring calm to the area.
According to a statement signed by Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the operation followed a credible tip-off on the movement of armed bandits around Ungwan Tudu, Ungwan Tsamiya, and Goron Dutse at about 5:00 p.m. on November 1, 2025.
Troops, supported by other security agencies, swiftly mobilized and engaged the bandits in a heavy firefight, forcing them to retreat. During the encounter, several motorcycles and two mobile phones were recovered from the criminals.
However, the Army confirmed that two gallant soldiers and one local vigilante lost their lives in the line of duty.
Captain Zubairu noted that further clearance operations are ongoing in the general area to protect vulnerable communities that have been targets of cattle rustling and other criminal activities.
The Commander, 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, reassured law-abiding citizens of the Army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across Kano State in collaboration with sister services and other security agencies.
The Nigerian Army urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to security authorities.
