Troops repel terrorist attack in Adamawa, kill six insurgents

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have repelled a coordinated attack by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a military base in Adamawa State, neutralising six insurgents and recovering a cache of arms, ammunition and combat equipment.

In a statement Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Maiduguri Captain Mohammed Goni, the attack targeted the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Garaha in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State at approximately 9:07 p.m., when the terrorists advanced on foot from the LAR axis in an apparent attempt to overrun the military position.

However, the troops of Sector 4 responded with superior firepower and effective tactical coordination, forcing the attackers to retreat after a fierce encounter.

A subsequent search of the operational area led to the discovery of six terrorist corpses, confirming the neutralisation of the insurgents.

The troops also recovered a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition, including one PKT machine gun with three ammunition belts containing 67 rounds, six AK-47 rifles, 11 AK-47 magazines, 157 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 120 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one 60mm mortar bomb.

Other items recovered from the scene included an Infinix Android phone, a Canon portable video recorder, three camelback water bags, a magazine carrier and assorted clothing.

Despite the successful defence of the military installation, the troops sustained casualties during the engagement. The wounded personnel are receiving medical attention, while arrangements for their evacuation are ongoing.

Military authorities said the troops had maintained heightened vigilance and continued search operations around the area to forestall further attacks and recover additional items of operational significance.

The successful repulsion of the assault underscores the combat readiness, resilience and operational resolve of Operation HADIN KAI troops in defending military positions and countering terrorist offensives across Nigeria’s North-East.

The Theatre Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining aggressive, intelligence-driven operations aimed at denying insurgents freedom of movement, degrading their operational capabilities and protecting vulnerable communities.

It also reaffirmed the military’s determination to consolidate ongoing security operations and support efforts to restore lasting peace and stability across the region.
