Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have thwarted a major terrorist incursion from Zamfara State into Niger State, neutralizing dozens of militants and recovering weapons, motorcycles, and communication equipment.
The operation took place on July 22, 2025, as terrorists attempted to move from the Baban Doka axis of Maru Local Government Area in Zamfara towards Ragada and Warari communities in Rijau LGA, Niger State. Acting on intelligence, joint troops from the Mariga and Zuru axes launched a coordinated offensive near Inana Village in Rijau.
Supported by the Air Component of OPFY, which provided surveillance and precision airstrikes, the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight. The operation led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, a magazine with five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 18 motorcycles, and various communication devices.
One soldier was fatally wounded in the encounter.
Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer of OPFY, reaffirmed the task force’s commitment to eliminating terrorist threats across the North West and North Central regions. He called on the public to support military efforts by providing actionable intelligence.
