Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 33 passengers abducted by terrorists in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The rescue followed a swift response to credible intelligence received on Saturday, August 8, 2026, regarding the abduction of commuters travelling through the Magazu area of Tsafe.
According to the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of the operation, in collaboration with Nigeria Police Force personnel deployed in Tsafe, mobilised to the area after receiving the information in the late afternoon.
The security forces intercepted the terrorists while they were moving the abducted passengers to an undisclosed destination.
The troops engaged the terrorists with effective fire, forcing them to abandon the victims and flee into adjoining bushes.
All 33 passengers were subsequently secured and rescued without casualties.
Following the operation, the troops commenced exploitation of the surrounding area and continued efforts to track the fleeing terrorists.
The Theatre Commander, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, commended the troops for their prompt response, courage and professionalism, which he said resulted in the safe recovery of all the abducted passengers.
He reaffirmed the Theatre Command’s determination to protect civilians, deny terrorists freedom of action and secure major transportation routes across the North-West.
The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely and credible information on the activities and movements of terrorists and other criminal elements.
The command said sustained cooperation between communities and security forces remained critical to preventing attacks and strengthening security across the region.
