Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded a series of operational successes in Katsina State, rescuing a kidnapped victim, arresting suspects during a joint security raid and recovering 126 rustled livestock in separate operations aimed at dismantling terrorist and criminal networks.
In the early hours of July 26, troops, working alongside the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, responded to a distress call over terrorist activity at Karkata Village in Charanchi Local Government Area. As the security team advanced to the location, they encountered the terrorists and engaged them in a fierce gun battle.
Overpowered by the troops’ superior firepower, the terrorists abandoned their captive and fled into the surrounding bushes. The kidnapped victim was rescued unharmed and subsequently reunited with her family.
In another operation, troops collaborated with personnel of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to conduct coordinated raids at Wagin, Tundu Mobi and Chadawaki communities in Batsari Local Government Area.
The raid resulted in the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm loaded with five cartridges, alongside other exhibits. The suspects and recovered items have been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Also on July 26, troops acting on credible intelligence laid an ambush along a suspected terrorist crossing route at Yankwani Village in Bakori Local Government Area. The soldiers intercepted suspected terrorists attempting to move rustled livestock through the area.
The terrorists fled under sustained military pressure, abandoning 126 animals comprising 83 cows and 43 sheep. The recovered livestock were handed over to the Chairman of the Peace Keeping Committee in Bakori, in the presence of local government officials, for identification and return to their rightful owners.
Commending the troops for their gallantry and vigilance, the Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against terrorists and other criminal elements across Katsina State and the wider North-West region.
The latest operations underscore the continued offensive by security forces to disrupt terrorist activities, rescue victims, recover stolen property and restore confidence among communities affected by insecurity.
