Türkiye has delivered 36 metric tons of emergency food supplies to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Adamawa State, reinforcing international humanitarian support for communities affected by insurgency in Nigeria’s northeast.
The consignment, facilitated by Disaster and Emergency Management Authority in collaboration with the United Nations, was distributed at the Malkohi IDP Camp located on the outskirts of Yola. The intervention targets vulnerable households displaced by years of violence linked to the Boko Haram insurgency.
The aid packages, consisting of staple food items and essential household supplies, are expected to provide short-term relief to hundreds of families facing acute hardship and food insecurity.

Speaking at the distribution, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to humanitarian assistance, noting that Türkiye remains a leading global donor in crisis response.
“These efforts are aimed at alleviating, even if only in part, the hardships faced by people struggling to survive under extremely difficult conditions,” he said, adding that Türkiye’s support for Nigeria extends beyond relief assistance to broader security and stability initiatives.
A representative of the National Emergency Management Agency in Adamawa State, Selen Laori, described the intervention as timely, stating that the supplies would significantly ease pressure on displaced populations within the camp.

Also present at the event was the Adamawa State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Bello Diram, alongside other government officials and humanitarian stakeholders.
The latest intervention highlights Türkiye’s expanding humanitarian engagement across Africa and aligns with ongoing efforts by the United Nations and partners to address the protracted crisis in northeastern Nigeria.

Humanitarian agencies estimate that hundreds of thousands remain displaced after more than a decade of insurgency, underscoring the need for sustained international assistance to tackle food insecurity, restore livelihoods, and support long-term recovery.
