The Kano State High Court has sentenced two men, Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Mukhtar Usman, to six months imprisonment for impersonating officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Nasiru Saminu delivered the judgment on Friday, July 25, 2025, following their arraignment by the Kano Zonal Directorate of the EFCC on a one-count charge of impersonation. The duo were found to have falsely presented themselves as EFCC investigators using forged identity cards in a bid to deceive unsuspecting individuals.
According to the charge, the offence was committed in May 2025 in Kano and is punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code Law.
Both defendants pleaded guilty. EFCC counsel, Idris I. Haruna, presented the facts of the case and urged the court to convict them accordingly.
Justice Saminu sentenced them to six months imprisonment with an option of a ₦50,000 fine each.
The conviction underscores the EFCC’s commitment to curbing impersonation and protecting the integrity of its operations.
