Uba Sani presents N986bn 2026 budget to Kaduna Assembly

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, on Tuesday presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly, proposing a total budget of N985.9 billion aimed at consolidating gains in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and social development.

The proposed budget allocates 71% to capital expenditure and 29% to recurrent costs, underscoring the administration’s emphasis on long-term developmental projects. Education and Infrastructure each receive 25% of the total budget, followed by Health (15%), Agriculture and Food Security (11%), Security (6%), Social Development (5%), Governance and Administration (5%) and Environment and Climate Action (4%).

During his presentation, Governor Sani highlighted progress recorded across key sectors in 2025. He disclosed that the administration initiated 140 road projects covering 1,335 kilometres, with 64 already completed and opened to the public under the Roads Development Initiative.

He also announced that Kaduna is implementing Northern Nigeria’s first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, featuring a 24km corridor, CNG-powered buses, digital ticketing and modern terminals. According to him, free and subsidised transportation has saved citizens over N500 million.

On education, the Governor said his administration has reopened 535 schools, returned over 300,000 out-of-school children to classrooms, constructed 736 new classrooms, renovated 1,220, fenced 39 schools, drilled 165 boreholes and provided 595 VIP toilets.

In the health sector, Governor Sani reported ongoing upgrades across all 255 Primary Healthcare Centres, while 15 General Hospitals are undergoing reconstruction or major improvements—five of which have been completed. He added that the new 300-bed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital will significantly expand the state’s healthcare capacity.

Agriculture, he noted, has seen one of the largest sectoral investments in the country, rising from N1.4 billion in 2023 to N74.2 billion in 2025, including the distribution of more than 900 trucks of free fertiliser to smallholder farmers.

Governor Sani further disclosed that his administration has contracted no new loans since taking office but has paid N114.9 billion in debt servicing. Additionally, each of Kaduna’s 255 wards received N100 million for community-prioritised projects under the state’s participatory budgeting system.

Describing the 2026 budget as one of “renewal, resilience and long-term vision,” the Governor said it is designed to build a more secure, productive and inclusive Kaduna State.
