The United Kingdom has announced a $5 million investment to establish Nigeria’s first battery recycling facility, marking a significant step in environmental sustainability and economic development.
During a four-day visit to Lagos and Ogun States, British High Commissioner, Dr. Richard Montgomery, highlighted the UK’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties. In Ogun State, UK-based Hinckley Recycling will set up a cutting-edge recycling plant, utilizing UK-patented technology to recycle lithium-ion and lead-acid batteries. This facility, the first of its kind in Africa, is expected to create 100 direct jobs and foster a new high-value export industry.
Dr. Montgomery also met with state governors and business leaders, emphasizing the UK’s ongoing support for economic growth in Nigeria. “The UK is committed to driving growth, promoting trade, and supporting the development of key Nigerian regions,” he said.
