On Tuesday, April 30th, 2024, a voluntary repatriation initiative led by the United Nations International Organization for Migration (UN’IOM) facilitated the return of 155 distressed Nigerians from Libya. The repatriated individuals arrived aboard Al Buraq Air Boeing 5A-BAA, bearing registration number 5A-DMG, which landed at the Cargo Wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja at approximately 17:55 hours.
Among the returnees were 29 males, 111 females, 11 children, and 1 infant, as detailed by their profiles. Upon arrival, many expressed relief and joy at their successful return to Nigeria.
Multiple agencies, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigeria Refugee Commission, Immigration Service, and Nigeria Port Health Services, were present at the airport to receive and assist the returnees.
The repatriation effort underscores the ongoing collaboration between international and domestic entities to support vulnerable populations and address the challenges faced by Nigerians abroad.
