The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) has called for sustained collaboration with the Nigerian military, particularly Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), to enhance humanitarian efforts in the North East.
The Head of UN OCHA Nigeria, Mr. Trond Jensen, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Theatre Commander of OPHK, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, on 10 July 2025 at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri. Mr. Jensen requested continued military support to ensure the safe delivery and distribution of humanitarian aid across conflict-affected areas.
He pledged that all relief materials would be strictly directed to vulnerable populations and not fall into the hands of criminal elements.
Responding, Major General Abubakar reaffirmed OPHK’s commitment to supporting UN OCHA’s operations. He emphasized the crucial role of humanitarian organizations, noting that while military operations account for 30 percent of efforts in the region, non-kinetic activities—such as humanitarian aid—represent the remaining 70 percent.
The commander also commended UN OCHA for its capacity-building support to troops and its focus on high-need communities despite financial constraints.
The visit concluded with the presentation of a commemorative plaque and a group photograph.
