Woman arrested for smuggling drugs into Kuje prison

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has apprehended a woman, Precious Yusuf, for attempting to smuggle substances suspected to be psychoactive drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje. The arrest occurred on Tuesday when Yusuf posed as a visitor to one of the inmates.

According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the NCoS FCT Command, Deputy Superintendent of Corrections Adamu Duza, the drugs were discovered during a routine search. The items, suspected to be cannabis sativa and other psychoactive substances, were concealed in food packs intended for an inmate.

Following the discovery, the Controller of Corrections for the FCT Command, Ibrahim Usman, ordered that the suspect be handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation and prosecution.

Usman issued a stern warning to visitors with similar intentions, emphasizing that such attempts will be thwarted by the vigilant personnel on duty. He also called on the general public and well-meaning Nigerians to support the Nigerian Correctional Service in its efforts to reform and rehabilitate offenders, thereby fostering public safety.
