In a significant move to commemorate the 17th World Rabies Day, the Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, joined the global community in advocating for the crucial theme of ‘All for 1, One Health for all.’ This theme underscores the message that the concept of One Health extends to benefit everyone and is not confined to a select few.

World Rabies Day serves as an annual reminder of the vital importance of collaborative efforts to combat the deadly rabies disease, which poses a threat to both humans and animals alike.

In an official statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Nigeria Police Force unveiled a special initiative as part of its commitment to the One Health initiative. Starting today and lasting for the next month, the Nigeria Police Force will provide free anti-rabies vaccinations for all dogs at its police veterinary clinics across the nation. This initiative aims to safeguard not only the well-being of our loyal canine companions but also to prevent the transmission of rabies to humans.

Recognizing the pivotal role played by police veterinary personnel and dog handlers in protecting our communities, and in an effort to ensure their well-being and promote public safety, the Police will extend free anti-rabies vaccinations to all police veterinary personnel and dog handlers.

The Inspector-General of Police reiterated the determination of his administration to ensure equitable access to health services, emphasizing that health is a fundamental right for all and not a privilege. On this 17th World Rabies Day, he called upon all Nigerians to unite and contribute to the global endeavor for a rabies-free future.

This initiative by the Nigeria Police Force underscores the significance of a collective commitment to eradicating rabies and the belief that, together, we can make a difference in creating a safer and healthier future for all.
