Zulum calls Maiduguri flood devastating, pledges support for victims

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has described the recent flooding in Maiduguri as devastating, following his visits to camps where victims of Monday’s disaster are sheltering.

A statement from the Press Unit of Borno State Government House revealed that during his visits on Tuesday, Governor Zulum expressed sympathy for the displaced residents and assured them of the state government’s support until the floodwaters recede and they can return home.

“I am deeply concerned by the calamity that struck us on Monday, caused by the increased water volume. We are doing everything within our power to provide relief to our people,” Zulum said. “We will provide all the necessary support and ensure that you can return to your homes as soon as the situation improves.”

The statement noted that several states in the northeast, including Borno, have experienced severe flooding in recent days, largely due to heavy rainfall. It also highlighted that flood-prone areas in Chad and Cameroon share borders with communities in Borno State, exacerbating the impact on local residents.
