Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has strongly condemned a suicide attack at a mosque in Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, which claimed five lives and left 35 others injured.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when a suspected suicide bomber infiltrated the mosque during Maghrib prayers and detonated an explosive device, causing multiple casualties among worshippers.
Governor Zulum, who conveyed his reaction from the frontline in northern Borno through his Special Adviser on Media, Malam Dauda Iliya, described the attack as barbaric, inhumane and utterly condemnable. He called for increased vigilance and heightened security measures, particularly in places of worship and other public spaces during the festive period.
“I am deeply saddened by the Gamboru mosque suicide attack which occurred on Wednesday evening when worshippers were performing Maghrib prayers, killing five people and injuring 35 others,” the governor said. “Attacking a place of worship is a desecration of its sanctity at a time when Muslim faithful are engaged in acts of devotion.”
The governor extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the attack and prayed for the repose of their souls, as well as the speedy recovery of the injured.
Governor Zulum further assured residents that adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent further breaches during the festive season and beyond, reiterating the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
