Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum has reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the manpower deficit in the state’s healthcare sector by establishing two new nursing schools. The announcement was made on Sunday during his assessment visit to the construction site of the new School of Nursing in Monguno.
“Human resources in the healthcare sector is one of the major problems throughout the country,” Governor Zulum stated. “To provide a permanent but long-term solution, we have decided to establish a school of nursing in Monguno so that in the near future, we will produce health workers who would provide healthcare services to the people of northern Borno.”
Additionally, Governor Zulum announced the establishment of another school of nursing in Gwoza to cater to the southern part of the state. This strategic initiative aims to ensure a steady supply of qualified nurses to serve the region’s healthcare needs.
The governor also highlighted other significant healthcare projects in the state. “In addition to the two schools of nursing, we have established two eye and dental hospitals each in the northern and southern parts of the state with a comprehensive teaching hospital at an advanced stage of completion located in Maiduguri,” he said.
Governor Zulum emphasized the importance of not only building these institutions but also ensuring they are adequately staffed and equipped. “We will recruit enough human resources to meet the needs of these three institutions. Above all, we will ensure that they are well equipped and powered by solar energy.”
Expressing satisfaction with the progress and quality of the ongoing projects, Governor Zulum directed that all the new institutions be provided with solar energy to ensure reliable power supply.
These efforts underscore the governor’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare infrastructure in Borno State, ultimately aiming to improve health outcomes and access to medical services for its residents.
