The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has approved the imposition of a 16-hour daily curfew across 10 local government areas of the state, in what officials describe as a security precaution.
According to a directive contained in a memorandum issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Musibau Babatunde, the restriction takes effect from Wednesday, 24 June 2026.
The curfew will run daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. for an initial period of 48 hours. Authorities said the measure affects local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park, following heightened security concerns in the corridor.
The affected councils are Oriire (Ikoyi-Ile), Oorelope (Igboho), Irepo (Kisi), Saki West (Saki), Saki East (Ago-Amodu), Atisbo (Tede), Itesiwaju (Otu), Iseyin (Iseyin), Olorunsogo (Igbeti), and Atiba (Offa-Meta).
The statement, signed by the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, did not provide additional details on the specific security threats necessitating the curfew but urged residents in the affected areas to comply strictly with the directive.
State authorities are expected to review the curfew within the 48-hour window to determine whether it will be extended, relaxed, or lifted.
