In a display of valor and swift response, troops of the Nigerian Army deployed to combat insurgency in North West Nigeria successfully defended the Damba Dikko village in the Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. The community was under threat from marauding insurgents seeking to impose levies forcefully on the villagers.
In an official statement Director Army Public Relations Major General Onyema Nwachukwu said the vigilant troops promptly moved to the village and engaged the insurgents in a fierce gun battle. As a result, two insurgents were neutralized, and two villagers who had been held hostage were rescued. The rescued individuals, who sustained minor injuries, received immediate medical attention from Nigerian Army paramedics.
He said on the same day, Nigerian Army troops conducted a daring rescue operation in Edo State, extricating four kidnap victims who had been abducted by a notorious gang of kidnappers. The victims, including a woman and three men, had been forcibly taken into the Ososo forest in the Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the state. The gallant troops tracked and intercepted the criminals, engaging them in a firefight and successfully rescuing the abductees.
Nwachukwu said one of the kidnappers was apprehended and is currently undergoing preliminary investigation, with plans for handover to the appropriate prosecuting agency. Additionally, one rescued victim, who suffered from shock and fatigue, has been evacuated to a medical facility for treatment, while the others have been reunited with their families.
The Nigerian Army expresses gratitude to the public for their cooperation with troops and other security agencies in the ongoing fight against security challenges in the country and urges continued vigilance and prompt reporting of any suspected security breaches to relevant agencies.
