The air component of Operation Hadarin Daji has conducted decisive airstrikes on terrorist enclaves in the Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State, resulting in significant gains. Confirming these operations, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, highlighted the precision strikes executed on March 5, 2024. These strikes targeted the stronghold of notorious terrorist leader Maudi Maudi and other prominent figures situated south of Tsaskiya in the Safana Local Government Area.
Gabkwet emphasized that the airstrikes were meticulously planned following extensive Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance operations in the targeted area. These operations revealed clusters of structures within rugged terrain, indicating a presence of terrorists. The presence of a substantial number of armed terrorists among these structures prompted authorization for the airstrikes.
According to Gabkwet, a subsequent post-strike assessment confirmed the destruction of the targeted location, with survivors observed fleeing the area. While many terrorists were neutralized, the fate of Maudi Maudi remains unconfirmed.
Furthermore, similar precision strikes were conducted on March 6, 2024, targeting the stronghold of notorious terrorist kingpin Alhaji Na-Shama, situated east of Ussu village within the Nasarawar Mailayi District in the Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Reliable human intelligence sources have confirmed the neutralization of several of Na-Shama’s associates and the complete obliteration of his camp and logistical infrastructure. Confirmation regarding Na-Shama’s fate is pending.
Gabkwet underscored that the strategic airstrikes conducted by NAF aircraft continue to yield significant results, including the elimination of numerous terrorists and disruption of their operational capabilities. These efforts are directed at safeguarding civilian lives and disrupting terrorist logistics and mobility networks. He reiterated that this proactive approach aligns with the overarching mission objectives of Operation Hadarin Daji, which aims to secure the Northwestern region of Nigeria from the threats posed by terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry.
