In a decisive move, the Edo State House of Assembly has voted to impeach the State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, following an investigation into allegations of misconduct against him. The action came after the adoption of the report submitted by the committee tasked with probing the allegations.
The panel’s findings revealed that while the accusation of perjury leveled against the deputy governor was not substantiated beyond reasonable doubt, the allegation of disclosing government official documents was proven beyond reasonable doubt.
During the plenary session where the decision was made, 20 members of the House were in attendance. Of these, 18 voted in favor of the panel’s reports, while one member dissented.
Instructing further action, the Speaker of the House, Blessing Agbrbaku, directed that a finalized copy of the impeachment decision be forwarded to the Governor of the State, Godwin Obaseki, for his assent.
