Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), has addressed recent allegations of civilian shootings by soldiers in Bokkos, Plateau State. These claims, lodged by the Coalition of Bokkos Ethnic Youth Nationalities, have been refuted by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, the Media Information Officer of OPSH. Major Zhakom asserts that such accusations are baseless and appear to be aimed at undermining security efforts in the region.
The Coalition of Bokkos Ethnic Youth Nationalities has petitioned for the removal of Colonel CY Ofurumazi, Commander of Step-Up Headquarters 2 in Bokkos, citing concerns over alleged civilian shootings exacerbating vulnerability among residents. In response, Major Zhakom maintains that OPSH swiftly responded to distress calls during attacks on April 13, 2024, resulting in casualties including one fatality and several injuries in Kopnanle and Mandang Mushu.
Contrary to allegations, OPSH denies engaging in any confrontations with vigilantes and emphasizes its primary objective of restoring peace amid clashes between ethnic militia groups. The deceased individual, purportedly a vigilante, was found to possess sophisticated weaponry, contradicting claims of self-defense.
OPSH dismisses allegations against Colonel Ofurumazi, attributing calls for his removal to the success of operations under his command, which have effectively curbed criminal activities in the area. Furthermore, OPSH warns against the dissemination of false information, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining neutrality and safeguarding citizens. Citizens are urged to disregard misinformation and collaborate with security agencies to ensure the safety and security of the region.
