The recent killings in Plateau State have drawn sharp condemnation from former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar. Over 40 people were killed on Monday in Zurak village, Wase Local Government, while nearly two dozen residents were slain earlier in Tilengpat community, Pushit district, Mangu Council, and in Mandar Shar and Kopnanle villages in Mangu and Bokkos Councils.
Abubakar expressed deep concern over the escalating violence, emphasizing the humanity of the victims and denouncing the continuous loss of life as unacceptable. He highlighted the growing insecurity, which contradicts the government’s claims of improved security under the current administration.
Abubakar called for urgent action on the implementation of State Police, arguing that it is essential to address the unique security challenges faced by different states. He acknowledged concerns about potential abuse by state governors but insisted that robust safeguards could be established to prevent misuse.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and the government and people of Plateau State,” Abubakar stated.
