Forward Operating Base BONNY on Monday, July 1, executed a significant operation under the code name Operation DELTA SANITY, targeting illegal oil refining activities in Rivers State, Nigeria. The operation led to the discovery and deactivation of two illegal refining sites, along with the interception of stolen crude oil.
The military unit uncovered one storage tank, two cooking tanks, and several dug-out pits laden with substantial amounts of stolen crude oil at the illegal refining sites. This move marks a substantial blow against the illegal refining operations that have plagued the region.
During the same operation, the patrol team intercepted two large wooden boats loaded with an unspecified quantity of stolen crude oil. These interceptions occurred in the Alakiri and Elem-Krakrama general areas, both known hotspots for illegal oil activities in Rivers State.
Operation DELTA SANITY aims to curb the widespread issue of oil theft and illegal refining, which has severe economic and environmental repercussions for the country. By disrupting these illegal activities, the operation seeks to protect national resources and promote stability in the Niger Delta region.
Authorities have emphasized the importance of continued vigilance and collaboration with local communities to effectively combat illegal oil operations. The success of this operation demonstrates the ongoing commitment of Forward Operating Base BONNY and other security forces to restoring order and ensuring the lawful management of Nigeria’s oil resources.
