IGP expands NCCC operations to enhance national security

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has mandated the expansion of the National Cybercrime Centre (NCCC) operations to the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) Annex offices.

According to Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, AbujaACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, this decision comes in response to the rising threat of misinformation, disinformation, and other cyber-related crimes that could disrupt public order and tarnish the nation’s reputation via social media platforms.

To address these challenges, the NCCC will now operate in the FCID Annex offices located in Lagos, Kaduna, Gombe, and Enugu States. This expansion aims to streamline the investigation and management of cybercrime cases in accordance with the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act 2024. By extending the NCCC’s reach, the police force will ensure more efficient coordination and monitoring of cybercrime investigations.

IGP Egbetokun emphasized that this move will significantly boost the Nigerian Police Force’s (NPF) capability to combat cybercrime, allowing for swift and unified responses to digital threats nationwide. He reassured the public of the NPF’s dedication to safeguarding digital environments and maintaining the safety and security of all citizens.
