CAS advocates for return of peace and prosperity in Plateau

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has expressed optimism for the restoration of peace and tranquility in Plateau State.

According to Director of Public Relations and Information Nigerian Air Force Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet during a recent meeting with Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Abubakar highlighted the tireless efforts of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and other security agencies in combating criminal elements within the state.

Reflecting on his tenure as an instructor at the Air Force Military School in Jos, Abubakar commended the inherently peaceful nature of Plateau’s residents and expressed his hope for the return of stability, which he believes is essential for the prosperity of the citizens.

Abubakar emphasized the necessity of a holistic, whole-of-government approach to resolve the ongoing security challenges. He called for the collaboration of government officials, security agencies, traditional leaders, community representatives, and religious leaders. “All stakeholders must come together with a sincere commitment to ending the crisis and work towards a common goal of achieving peace, stability, and prosperity for the people of Plateau State,” he stated.

The CAS also shared that his visit to Plateau State was part of an operational assessment and inspection of NAF facilities in Jos and Kerang. He praised Governor Mutfwang for his unwavering dedication to restoring peace and security in the state. “Your resilience and doggedness in addressing the various forms of attacks that plagued the state shortly after your assumption of office are truly commendable. Your leadership and determination have been instrumental in bringing the relative calm and stability experienced so far,” he said.

Governor Mutfwang, in his response, expressed gratitude to the NAF under Air Marshal Abubakar for their commitment to ending the crisis in Plateau State. He acknowledged significant improvements in the state’s security, attributing the progress to the collaborative efforts of security agencies. “Where we are today is much better than where we were last year due to the collaborative efforts of the security agencies,” he remarked. However, the governor noted the adverse impact of insecurity on farming activities, which have decreased by approximately 50 percent, thus affecting food security in the region. He called for sincerity among stakeholders and an effective prosecution strategy for justice dispensation.

The meeting concluded with mutual recognition of the need for continued cooperation and strategic action to ensure lasting peace and prosperity in Plateau State.
