The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed 46 facilities across 10 states for various environmental violations.
The enforcement operations took place in Borno, Gombe, Ogun, Enugu, Edo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Taraba States.
NESREA’s spokesperson, Amaka Ejiofor, stated on Friday that the facilities were shut down for failing to comply with the National Environmental Regulations. Violations included breaching the Environmental Impact Assessment Act, lacking Environmental Audit Reports, and failing to develop and implement Environmental Management Plans.

Additional infractions involved not installing Effluent Treatment Plants, operating without necessary permits, and maintaining poor housekeeping standards.
Dr. Innocent Barikor, Director General of NESREA, expressed concern over the non-compliance, warning that such actions are detrimental to public health and the environment.
“It is disheartening that these errant facilities continued operations in a manner that endangered the environment despite receiving Notices of Compliance Concerns as required by law. The Agency will continue to enforce the 35 National Environmental Regulations and impose appropriate penalties on violators,” he stated.
Dr. Barikor urged all Nigerians to be environmental stewards by adhering to laws and reporting violations, emphasizing that compliance is crucial for the development of a healthy society.
