In a continued push to strengthen national security, the Nigerian Army has launched a series of successful operations, neutralizing a notorious terrorist fighter and making significant recoveries of arms, ammunition, rustled cattle, and key logistics used by terrorist groups.
On September 26, 2024, acting on actionable intelligence, Nigerian troops engaged fleeing terrorists near Gayam Village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State. In the operation, one notorious fighter was eliminated, while others fled, abandoning an AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine, two motorcycles, and a mobile phone.
In a separate ambush along the Karau Karau-Galadimawa road, troops arrested 18 suspects linked to the rustling of 150 cattle, recovering mobile phones containing videos of terrorists receiving training and cash amounting to N215,550.
Further successes were recorded across multiple states:
- In Rivers State, troops intercepted a suspected kidnapper at Cool Beach Jetty, seizing a loaded pistol and suspected cannabis.
- In Enugu State, a sting operation led to the arrest of three suspected criminals hiding under a bridge, with mobile phones, weapons, and drug-related materials recovered.
- In Benue State, troops repelled a terrorist attack on police, recovering a Light Machine Gun and 100 rounds of ammunition.
- In Plateau State, four suspects were caught with rustled cows, while in Kaduna, troops arrested two terrorists receiving treatment at a private clinic.
In Borno State, a raid in Bama Local Government neutralized one terrorist, rescued a kidnapped victim, and intercepted a vehicle carrying empty ammunition cases. Additionally, eight terrorists and their families surrendered to troops in Bama.
The Chief of Army Staff praised the troops for their bravery and professionalism, reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and securing peace nationwide.
