ECOWAS Court of Justice leaders visit ECOWAS commission to strengthen collaboration

In a bid to foster stronger cooperation between key ECOWAS institutions, the President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, Honourable Justice Ricardo Claudio Monteiro Gonçalves, and Vice-President, Honourable Justice Sengu Mohamed Koroma, paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency Omar Alieu Tourey, President of the ECOWAS Commission. The meeting, which took place on Thursday, aimed at reinforcing ties and enhancing synergy between the two institutions to promote regional integration.

H.E. Tourey welcomed the new leadership of the Court, congratulating them on their recent election and expressing his enthusiasm for closer institutional collaboration. He emphasized the critical role of the Court of Justice as the “last resort” for citizens dissatisfied with national judicial outcomes, highlighting its importance in ensuring justice within the community.

Justice Gonçalves affirmed the Court’s commitment to working closely with the Commission, noting that the visit was part of a broader initiative to introduce the new leadership to community institutions and enhance cooperation. Justice Koroma echoed the sentiment, stressing the significance of sustained collaboration over the next two years to build a more unified and prosperous ECOWAS.

The visit is one of several planned by the Court’s new leadership, aimed at deepening partnerships with ECOWAS institutions to advance regional integration and development.
