The importance of effective collaboration among security agencies in the Niger Delta region has been reaffirmed by Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division.
According to Acting Deputy Director, 6 Division Army Public Relations Lt. Col. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, speaking during a courtesy visit by newly posted Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Mustapha Mohammed Bala, at the 6 Division headquarters, General Abdussalam emphasized that seamless coordination between agencies is critical to maintaining peace and security in the region.
General Abdussalam highlighted the central role the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) plays in the security framework, noting that the Nigerian Army only steps in when situations exceed the NPF’s capacity. He stressed that success in security is a collective responsibility, stating, “If the police fail, it means all agencies have failed, and if there is peace, all agencies deserve credit.”

He urged all security agencies to continue working together to achieve common goals in securing Rivers State and the wider Niger Delta region.
The GOC also aligned his comments with the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, which prioritizes joint operations. He assured CP Bala that the 6 Division would continue to collaborate closely with the police to ensure the security of Rivers State.

In response, CP Mustapha Bala expressed gratitude for the army’s support and stressed the need for further cooperation.
He acknowledged the challenges of maintaining security in the region and pledged to strengthen the partnership with the Nigerian Army. “Without collaboration, it will be difficult to achieve security stability in this complex environment,” he noted, adding that he considers himself part of the army’s efforts under the GOC’s leadership.
The visit underscored the mutual commitment of both agencies to work together in addressing security challenges in the Niger Delta region.
