NNPC Ltd. refutes claims of adulterated fuel sales in viral video

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has issued a statement addressing a viral video that allegedly depicts adulterated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) being dispensed from an NNPC Retail station. In the video, an individual is seen pouring a dark liquid, claimed to be fuel from an NNPC outlet at Keffi Flyover, into bottles and jerrycans.

Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer for NNPC Ltd., clarified the company’s stance, stating that thorough spot checks had been conducted at all relevant outlets and found no evidence to support the claim. Soneye highlighted that NNPC does not dispense fuel in bottles or jerrycans, as depicted in the video, and remains committed to maintaining rigorous quality standards across all its retail outlets.

According to him, NNPC Retail’s operations are built on strict quality control measures to ensure that only high-quality and reliable petroleum products reach customers across Nigeria.

In addition to denying any involvement in the sale of adulterated fuel, NNPC Ltd. reaffirmed its commitment to product integrity, underscoring the company’s dedication to accurate pump calibration, regular inspections, and quality assurance at every stage of its operations. This, the company asserts, is part of its ongoing efforts to ensure that NNPC products remain safe, high-quality, and consistent across all its stations nationwide.

NNPC Ltd. also urged the public to disregard the video’s content, cautioning against malicious narratives that could damage the reputation of the company and mislead citizens. The company warned that such misinformation, spread by “selfish and unpatriotic elements,” does not reflect the reality of NNPC’s operations and commitment to service quality and national interests.
