The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has directed troops of the 6 Division Nigerian Army to intensify their operations against oil theft to boost the nation’s crude oil production.
According to Director, Army Public Relations Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the CoAS stated this during a working visit to Port Harcourt on Tuesday, December 24, 2024,
The CoAS expressed concern over the current crude oil output, describing it as unacceptable. He stressed that economic growth hinges on creating a secure and conducive environment for oil production.
“The troops must redouble their efforts to combat oil theft and sabotage,” General Oluyede stated. “Any personnel found colluding with criminal elements will face severe consequences under the law.”
The Army Chief also urged the soldiers to maintain professionalism, avoid inducements, and act with integrity in fulfilling their duties. He assured the troops of his commitment to enhancing their welfare and operational capabilities, emphasizing their pivotal role in stabilizing the economy for the benefit of all Nigerians.
The visit highlights the Army’s renewed focus on safeguarding critical national resources and supporting economic stability.
