The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has pledged to collaborate with the Association of West African Legislative Correspondents (AWALCO) to enhance public awareness of the ECOWAS Parliament, particularly as it marks its 25th anniversary.
NAN’s Managing Director, Malam Ali Muhammad Ali, made this commitment on Thursday during a courtesy visit by AWALCO’s leadership to his office in Abuja. He emphasized NAN’s role as Africa’s largest news content provider and reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to supporting the Parliament’s visibility.
“With an association like this, you will find a soulmate in NAN. We look forward to a strong partnership to help the ECOWAS Parliament achieve its goals and raise awareness about its activities,” Ali stated.

AWALCO President, Mr. Innocent Odoh, highlighted the significance of NAN’s collaboration in promoting the Parliament’s anniversary celebrations, scheduled for November 16. He noted that AWALCO, as the Parliament’s press corps, is committed to ensuring comprehensive media coverage of the event and advancing the ideals of ECOWAS across the region.
“This partnership will expand the vision of ECOWAS, ensuring that citizens understand its objectives, including the ECOWAS Vision 2050,” Odoh said.

Chief Communication Officer of the ECOWAS Parliament, Mrs. Uche Duru, who was part of the delegation, conveyed greetings from the Parliament’s Speaker and Secretary-General. She reiterated the Parliament’s regional significance, emphasizing that AWALCO’s membership extends across West Africa, including nations reconsidering their membership in the bloc.
The collaboration between NAN and AWALCO is expected to bolster the Parliament’s outreach efforts and reinforce ECOWAS’s role in regional integration and governance.
