Former Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Governor Monday Okpebholo and his Deputy, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, following their victory at the Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal. The ruling, which upheld the election results of September 21, 2024, reaffirmed the legitimacy of the Okpebholo-led administration and dismissed the opposition’s challenge.
Shaibu described the Tribunal’s decision as a well-deserved victory that solidifies the will of the Edo people. He criticized the petitioners for attempting to mislead the court, stating that their case was weak and unsubstantiated. He particularly noted the Tribunal’s observation that the BVAS documents presented by the petitioners were merely submitted without proper evidence to support their claims.
“This verdict is not just a victory for His Excellency, but a victory for the people of Edo State and for democracy. From the very beginning, it was evident that the opposition’s claims lacked merit, and the Tribunal has rightly dismissed them,” Shaibu stated.
He further called on all Edo citizens, including members of the opposition, to put aside political differences and work together for the progress of the state. He urged unity and collective efforts to support Governor Okpebholo’s administration in fulfilling its campaign promises and delivering good governance.
“At this crucial moment, what Edo State needs is unity and development, not frivolous litigations that serve as distractions. True leadership is about service, collaboration, and delivering tangible results,” he added.
Shaibu also commended leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their steadfast support, emphasizing that the victory belongs to the party and the people of Edo State. He expressed optimism that the Okpebholo administration would build on existing progress and create opportunities for all Edo citizens to thrive.
As the new government settles into office, he encouraged all stakeholders to focus on governance and policies that will drive economic growth, infrastructure development, and social welfare in the state.
