The Federal Government of Nigeria and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) have signed a groundbreaking four-year Programme for Country Partnership (PCP) to accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development in Nigeria. The agreement, finalized in Abuja on April 2, 2025, aims to fast-track economic diversification and position Nigeria as a leading industrial hub in West Africa.
The PCP aligns with Nigeria’s Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP) 2021-2025, the Renewed Hope Agenda, and global frameworks such as the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It will focus on industrial policy, job creation, value addition, special economic zones, trade capacity, and sustainable energy development.
UNIDO Director General Gerd Müller emphasized the partnership’s potential, stating, “This marks a milestone in unlocking Nigeria’s economic and industrial potential. Our cooperation will drive sustainable economic growth through broad-based partnerships.”
The Nigerian government will provide strategic leadership for the PCP’s implementation, while UNIDO will mobilize funding and offer technical expertise. The initiative will also support agro-value chains, industrial innovation, circular economy strategies, and youth and women’s empowerment.
