Marwa urges NDLEA officers to stay committed in the fight against drug menace

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has reaffirmed the agency’s unwavering commitment to the fight against illicit drug trafficking and abuse. He charged officers and men of the agency to remain resolute and dedicated to the national mission of curbing drug-related crimes.

Marwa delivered the charge on Saturday while commissioning newly constructed blocks of terrace flats for personnel of the NDLEA Zonal Command in Kano, the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport Command, and members of the Strike Force Team deployed to Kano. The commissioning ceremony also featured the unveiling of a new rehabilitation facility.

He emphasized that the infrastructure commissioning underscores President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s enduring commitment to the welfare of security personnel, including those of the NDLEA.

“We recognize that the effectiveness of our officers depends not only on their training and operational tools, but also on the quality of their living conditions,” he stated. “A safe and decent home environment empowers the spirit, sharpens the mind, and strengthens the resolve of those entrusted with the vital responsibility of shielding our society from the scourge of drugs.”

Recalling the commissioning of the first-ever NDLEA barracks in Yola, Adamawa State earlier this year, Marwa disclosed that similar housing projects are in various stages of completion across Abuja, Enugu, and Lagos. He noted that the Abuja facility is ready for commissioning by President Tinubu.

“These buildings are more than mere structures of brick and mortar—they are symbols of our respect and commitment to the well-being of our officers. They represent peace, dignity, and institutional support,” Marwa said. “The battle against drug abuse and trafficking is a formidable one. It demands unwavering courage, discipline, and purpose. Through improved living conditions, we fortify our personnel—physically, mentally, and emotionally—to meet the demands of this national assignment.”

He commended the dedication and sacrifices of NDLEA personnel, particularly those stationed in Kano, for their impressive record of arrests, seizures, and convictions over the past year.

Highlighting Kano’s strategic importance—given its international airport and proximity to cross-border routes—he urged officers in the state to sustain their vigilance and commitment. “While we acknowledge the achievements thus far, we anticipate even greater strides in the future,” he said.

Marwa also appealed to personnel allocated the new accommodations to maintain the facilities with discipline and care, describing the development as a milestone in the NDLEA’s ongoing transformation into a more resilient, people-centered, and mission-driven institution.

“Together, let us build an agency that stands as a beacon of excellence, inspires loyalty, and upholds the highest standards of professionalism,” he added.

He extended his appreciation to President Tinubu for his consistent support and to all stakeholders who have partnered with the agency in pursuit of its constitutional mandate.

In a symbolic highlight of the event, Marwa decorated Maryam Gambo Sani, Zonal Commander of Zone 5, with her new rank of Deputy Commander General of Narcotics (DCGN), recognizing her exemplary service and leadership within the agency.
