Police rescue trafficked Ghanaian, warn against fake travel offers

The Nigeria Police Force has rescued a Ghanaian national, Sammed Iddrisu, who was trafficked into Nigeria under false pretenses of securing travel documents for migration to Europe.

The operation, coordinated by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja in collaboration with the FCT Police Command, was carried out on June 27, following intelligence shared by INTERPOL NCB Accra, Ghana.

Investigations revealed that on January 10, 2025, Iddrisu’s father, Mr. Nartey Louda, was defrauded of GHC 55,000 by a trafficker identified as “Attah,” who promised to procure a French visa for his son. Iddrisu was subsequently directed to travel to Abuja to collect the documents.

However, upon arrival on June 25, the victim was held against his will and coerced into illegal online activities linked to the QNET pyramid scheme, a fraudulent operation disguised as an e-commerce business.

The police noted that another Ghanaian victim had escaped and reported the matter to authorities in Ghana, prompting international coordination that led to Iddrisu’s rescue.

According to a statement from Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police have commenced efforts to track and prosecute the perpetrators. Reintegration procedures for the rescued victim are ongoing.

The Force urged the public to be wary of unsolicited or unverifiable travel opportunities, especially those involving large financial commitments, and to verify all travel offers through official diplomatic and law enforcement channels. “Members of the public must report suspicious activities or individuals promptly through appropriate authorities to prevent falling victim to trafficking and fraud,” the statement added.
